Green Xperts (GX) has been entrusted by the Majlis Agama Islam Negeri Pulau Pinang (MAINPP) to install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in mosques and MAINPP-owned buildings, marking a major move towards sustainability. This initiative uses unused roof spaces to generate renewable energy, aligning with the Malaysian government's target of 70% renewable energy capacity in the electricity supply by 2050 and reducing carbon emissions. These solar PV systems can help mosques save up to 30% on electricity bills. The project encompasses 31 sites, including Kolej Islam Teknologi Antarabangsa (KITAB), 28 mosques, and 2 suraus across Penang.
During the Solar Installation Officiating Ceremony, alongside the Khatam Quran Ceremony and Iftar Perdana Masjid Al-Qahhar, YB Dato' Dr. Mohamad Bin Abdul Hamid, Deputy Chief Minister 1 of Penang and Chairman of MAINPP, emphasized the significance of solar PV systems as part of Penang Vision 2030. Key attendees included En. Faiz Mokhtar, CEO of XPERTS.MY, En. Fitri Isahak, Head of Business at Green Xperts, En. Amirul Iskandar, CEO of Yayasan WIBA Prima , and En. Mukmin Zulkifli, Manager of YWP.
Registered Solar Investors will execute the project in collaboration with the Board of Wakaf Penang, with Green Xperts playing a pivotal role. The event also featured notable figures such as Dato’ Haji Rosidi Hussain, Secretary of MAINPP, Tuan Abdul Mohsein Mohd Shariff, CEO of Wakaf Penang, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wan Nazjmi Mohamed Fisol, Rector of Kolej Islam Teknologi Antarabangsa Pulau Pinang.
