Hydro Xperts Sdn Bhd endeavour to reshape the renewable energy industry through strategic collaborations with MultiSkilled Ventures and innovative solutions, in marching forward to maximize efficiency and sustainability. A prime example is the successful revival of the hydroelectric power plant at Sungai Brooke, Gua Musang, Kelantan, which has been operational since 2023. This cutting-edge facility, equipped with two Pelton turbine generators, with capability to produce 12MW of electricity, significantly contributing to the Tenaga Nasional Berhad grid and supplying electricity to the local community.

Sungai Brooke plant is designed as a run-of-river hydroelectric facility. Central to its operation is a rehabilitated weir, which diverts water into a settling basin. Strategically located 8km downstream from the intake site, power station maximizes hydraulic pressure within the pipeline to drive the turbines efficiently and generate electricity.

Since the beginning of Hydro Xperts operations, the plant has faced challenges, notably sand deposition affecting the turbine runners. This issue is primarily due to increased agricultural activities around Lojing, Gua Musang, leading to river pollution. To tackle this, Hydro Xperts partnered with Modkha Marine Sdn Bhd, specialists in sand mining and excavation. The installation of a pontoon sand pump in the settling basin is a key step towards reducing sand deposition, increasing productivity, and ensuring consistent power generation.

In our pursuit of excellence and safety, Hydro Xperts also teamed up with Soluxions Xperts Sdn Bhd to support plant productivity through remote management. Current initiatives include deploying an advanced CCTV security system and biometric access at powerhouse, intake site and PPu Substation Kg Raja, for the safety of the personnels. In addition, the planning to implement an IoT ecosystem with water level monitoring and other automation technologies will facilitate efficient remote monitoring. To ensure robust connectivity, STARLINK is being installed as the primary communication infrastructure in mid-quarter of 2024.

Currently, the plant operates with one generator while comprehensive rehabilitation efforts are underway to optimize equipment and infrastructure. Simultaneously, XPERTS.MY’ IT team, is developing a real-time monitoring system to oversee the power plant’s input and output, to ensure maximum electricity generation. In true #WeAreTheXPERTS spirits, Hydro Xperts is committed to setting new standards in renewable energy, ensuring sustainability, and operational excellence for years to come.
